MasterCard’s Start Path Global Programme extended to African startups

MasterCard, a multinational financial services corporation headquartered in Purchase, New York has announced the extension of its Start Path Global partnership programme to African startups.

Start Path Global is a six-month virtual partnership programme which provides operational support, partnerships or investments to commerce-related startups without taking equity or requiring founders to relocate or requiring them to relinquish any intellectual property (IP).

“Start Path thoughtfully connects the right partners with the right startups to build the future of commerce together’, said Stephane Wyper, Global Lead of MasterCard Start Path.

Speaking further, he said “And now with our global expansion, we will be able to target a broader range of startups and help them achieve success”.

Startups participating in the programme will benefit from access to Start Path Partners such as Rakuten, Samsung Card, Bank of Montreal, Santander InnoVentures, Total System Services, Inc. and so on, who’ll offer them a direct link into corporates to test their solutions.

The MasterCard Start Path programme is currently open to startups until September 18, with non-US based startups with a live solution, established teams and recently secured seed or series A investment qualifying to apply.

Six or eight startups will be chosen to begin class in early November, after about 18 startups pitch their solutions to the MasterCard Start Path team in London on 27th and 28th October 2015.

The class will be invited to attend the inaugural Start Path Global Partner Summit where they will be given the opportunity of engaging with prospective Start Path Partners and industry leaders.

The Start Path programme was started in 2013 by MasterCard and it already has ZenCard, nymi, instabank, billhop and others in its portfolio.
