    AVG updates privacy policy, says it can make money off your data


    Security firm AVG has noted in its updated privacy policy that it can make money off information you provide to free products it offers, including your device brand, language and apps in use save for your personal data.


    In the updated privacy policy, the company says it can collect your provided data using cookies to track your searchers and your activities on websites, apps and other products. Afterwards, it’ll use those details to build sellable anonymous data profiles, with claims of the collected anonymize data not having any link to you.

    Speaking to Wired UK, an AVG spokesperson said, in the company’s bid to be more transparent and make it noteworthy to customers where it can make money from (their information inclusive). It’s updating the language. Noting that users who do not want it to use non-personal data in this way will be able to turn it off.

    This update should from October 15 this year take effect.
