Like a computer, it is important to make sure you erase any
personal data from a smartphone before donating, selling or even recycling the
device.
To
completely wipe an iPhone tap on Settings and then General and scroll till you
see Reset. Tap on Reset. Here you will have the option to reset your device. To
completely delete your apps and your personal data choose Erase All Content and
Settings.

Android devices the process depends on the version of the Android operating
system and possibly even the device itself as many Android phones are
customized by the wireless company that sells them.
Basically
you are looking for the Settings section either under the Privacy options or
the Backup and Reset options. Here you will be taken through the steps to erase
