YouTube outs VR app to give users truly immersive video experience

Google’s video-sharing platform, YouTube has announced the launch of a virtual reality (VR) app to give users a truly immersive video experience.

Known as YouTube VR, the app will allow users experience events they ordinarily wouldn’t engage in such as swimming with sharks, or events they don’t have the opportunity of participating in such as riding in an Indy Car.

“We’re creating the YouTube VR app to provide an easier, more immersive way to find and experience virtual reality content on YouTube,” YouTube stated on its official blog.

The app comes with all the YouTube features users are familiar with like voice search, discovery, and playlists.

These features are all personalized for users so that they can experience the world’s largest collection of VR videos in a whole new way.

YouTube is currently working with amazing content creators to experiment with new formats that offer a wide range of virtual experiences, thereby bringing even more great VR content onto YouTube and to users.

The YouTube VR app runs on Daydream, Google’s platform for high-quality mobile virtual reality announced at Google I/O 2016.

VR on YouTube is another step YouTube is taking to bring users immersive video experience – 360-degree video, VR video and Spatial Audio are already supported on YouTube.

“We’re just beginning to understand what a truly immersive VR experience can bring to fans of YouTube, but we’re looking forward to making that future a (virtual) reality,” YouTube added.
